Release Notes: 2.38.0 Documents Module - Inline Editor Replacement

High-Level Summary:

In order to provide advanced functionality to our customers, we have replaced the Inline Editor inside MYVCM Documents Module with a new tool. With these newly added features, while you are editing the documents directly in your browser, you would also be able to collaborate simultaneously and you would be able to track changes.

 

Program Interface

The Inline Editor uses a tabbed interface where editing commands are grouped into tabs by functionality. 

Home tab:

The Home tab appears by default when you open a file for editing. It also allows formatting fonts and paragraphs.

Using this tab, you can:

  • Adjust the font type, its size and color
  • Apply font decoration styles
  • Select a background color for a paragraph
  • Create bulleted and numbered lists
  • Change paragraph indents
  • Set paragraph line spacing
  • Align your text in a paragraph
  • Show/hide non-printing characters
  • Copy/clear text formatting
  • Change the color scheme
  • Manage styles

Insert tab:

The Insert tab allows adding some page formatting elements as well as visual objects and comments.

Using this tab, you can:

  • Insert a blank page
  • Insert page breaks, section breaks and column breaks
  • Insert tables, images, charts, shapes
  • Insert hyperlinks, comments
  • Insert headers and footers, page numbers, date & time
  • Insert text boxes and Text Art objects, equations, symbols, drop caps, content controls

Layout tab:

The Layout tab allows changing the appearance of a document: setting up page parameters and defining the arrangement of visual elements.

Using this tab, you can:

  • Adjust page margins, orientation and size
  • Add columns
  • Insert page breaks, section breaks and column breaks
  • Insert line numbers
  • Align and arrange objects (tables, pictures, charts, shapes)
  • Change the wrapping style
  • Add a watermark

References tab:

The References tab allows managing different types of references: adding and refreshing tables of contents, creating and editing footnotes, inserting hyperlinks.

Using this tab, you can:

  • Create and automatically update a table of contents
  • Insert footnotes and endnotes
  • Insert hyperlinks
  • Add bookmarks
  • Add captions
  • Insert cross-references

Collaboration tab:

The Collaboration tab allows collaborating on the files. You can share the file, select the required co-editing mode, manage comments, track changes made by a reviewer. The commenting mode allows simultaneous multi-user access to the document to be edited, visual indication of passages that are being edited by other users, real-time display of changes or synchronization of changes with one button click, comments with the description of a task or problem that should be solved

Using this tab, you can:

  • Switch between the Strict and Fast co-editing modes 
  • Add or remove comments to the document
  • Enable the Track Changes feature
  • Choose the changes display mode
  • Manage the suggested changes
  • Basic operations

The inline editor allows you to copy/paste text passages, undo/redo your actions and  change color scheme. 

  • To cut, copy and paste text passages and inserted objects (autoshapes, images, charts) in the current document, click the icons located on any tab of the top toolbar. 
  • To change a color scheme, click the downward arrow next to the Change color scheme Change color scheme icon on the Home tab of the top toolbar and select the required color scheme from the list: Office, Grayscale, Apex, Aspect, Civic, Concourse, Equity, Flow, Foundry, Median, Metro, Module, Odulent, Oriel, Origin, Paper, Solstice, Technic, Trek, Urban, Verve. The selected color scheme will be highlighted in the list.

 

  • Page formatting

Utilizing this functionality, you can:

  • Set page parameters
  • Show/hide nonprinting characters
  • Insert section breaks
  • Insert headers and footers
  • Insert date and time
  • Insert page numbers
  • Insert line numbers
  • Insert footnotes
  • Insert endnotes
  • Convert endnotes and footnotes
  • Add bookmarks
  • Add watermark

 

  • Paragraph formatting

Utilizing this functionality, you can:

  • Align your text in a paragraph
  • Set up paragraph outline level
  • Select background color for a paragraph
  • Change paragraph indents
  • Set paragraph line spacing
  • Insert page breaks
  • Add borders
  • Set tab stops
  • Create lists

 

  • Text formatting

Utilizing this functionality, you can:

  • Apply formatting presets
  • Set font type, size, and color
  • Apply font decoration styles
  • Copy/clear text formatting
  • Add hyperlinks
  • Insert cross-references
  • Insert a drop cap

 

  • Operations on objects

Utilizing this functionality, you can:

  • Insert tables
  • Use formulas in tables
  • Insert images
  • Insert autoshapes
  • Insert charts
  • Insert text objects

  • Insert symbols
  • Align and arrange objects on a page
  • Change text wrapping

  • Create a Table of Contents

 

  • Math equations

The Inline Editor allows you to build equations using the built-in templates, edit them, insert special characters (including mathematical operators, Greek letters, accents, etc.).

 

  • Document co-editing

Collaborative Document Editing:

The Inline Editor allows you to collaboratively work on a document with other users. This feature includes:

  • simultaneous multi-user access to the document to be edited
  • visual indication of passages that are being edited by other users
  • real-time display of changes or synchronization of changes with one button click
  • comments with the description of a task or problem that should be solved (it's also possible to work with comments in the offline mode, without connecting to the online version)

Document Review:

When somebody shares a file with you using the review permissions, you need to apply the document Review feature. As a reviewer, you can use the Review option to review the document, change the sentences, phrases and other page elements, correct spelling, etc. without actually editing it. All your changes will be recorded and shown to the person who sent you the document.If you send the file for review, you will need to display all the changes which were made to it, view and either accept or reject them.

Track Changes:

To see changes suggested by a reviewer, enable the Track Changes option in one of the following ways:

  • Click the Track changes button button in the right lower corner on the status bar, or
  • Switch to the Collaboration tab on the top toolbar and press the Track Changes button Track Changes button.
